Newsy Bits

 ANZAC Rally, LAURA - Report.

Members in 4 caravans and 1 cabin , together with 4 visitors, making a total of 13, enjoyed a great week at Laura, despite the rain that poured down on most days – [the country needed it!]    Most happy hours were held inside the very spacious cabin,.    The weather didn’t stop our tag-along trips to the various country towns with Stone Hut Bakery being a favourite for ‘brunch’ – delicious pies and pasties made in the bakehouse, with hot cuppuchinos.  Many drinks were obtained from Trends Drink Factory at Gladstone – non-alcoholic, with ginger drinks being very popular.

At Jamestown we encountered a “rain dust-storm”  -  yes it actually rained red mud – imagine what the little yellow car looked like !!   A drive from Murray town to Port Germein through the Gorge was very spectacular showing a variety of rock formations and colours.       Coffee at the Big Mac at Port Pirie for those who needed their caffeine fix!!  [Nothing else open in Pt.Pirie on Sunday pm.]     In Booleroo Centre, campers are welcome at the Rest Area in the middle of the town for overnight stops.

Anzac Day eve saw our members assisting at the RSL clubrooms preparing for the next morning’s activities.       Our fellas marched from the clubrooms to the memorial, for the dawn service, then walked back to the clubrooms for a sausage sizzle breakfast -   204 attendees – largest number at that event.    ‘Twas good to see the local football and netball club members attending the service as well as many children and young people.

Meals were available at the local hotel and restaurant.   Well worth it.      The craft/treasure shop did a good trade from our ladies.          Country sausages, chops and patties for our bbq luncheon [cooked outside, eaten in cabin because of rain and cold] and with local salad ingredients, tasted ‘yummie’.

After a week of full-on activities, members dispersed homewards, or to all parts of the country on their ‘winter’ travels looking for warmer climes.

   Message to Members -

This is your page - please help me to fill it with your news and your literary expertise -

                             Thanks,   Editor.

                                                                                                WHY!

Why is the third hand on the watch called the second hand?

If a word is misspelled in the dictionary, how would we ever know?

If Webster wrote the first dictionary, where did he find the words?

Why do we say something is out of whack?  What is a whack?

Why does "slow down" and "slow up" mean the same thing?

Why does "fat chance" and "slim chance" mean the same thing?

Why do "tug" boats push their barges?

Why do we sing "Take me out to the ball game" when we are already there?

Why are they called "stands" when they are made for sitting?

Why is it call "after dark" when it really is "after light"?

Why are a "wise man" and a "wise guy"         opposites?

Why do "overlook" and "oversee" mean opposite things?

If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay you to do it?

If love is blind, why is lingerie so popular?

Why do we put suits in garment bags and garments in a suitcase?

                    73’s and 88’s to all
